If you were to write a statement of faith, what would you include? Where would you begin?

If IPC were to adopt a statement of faith, what should it say? What should it leave out?

These are interesting and important questions, and one way to answer them is to study the church's long and rich history with creeds, confessions, catechisms, and statements of faith. Have you ever wondered where they came from and what questions they were written to answer? Why do we use the Nicene Creed so seldom in worship? (Hint: it's long.) Have you ever heard of the Second Helvetic Confession? (If you're Swiss, you should!)

Creeds, confessions, catechisms, and statements of faith will be the subject of an adult education class, beginning Sunday, September 4, and continuing through Sunday, October 2, at 10:00 in the Kantonsschule. Our leader will be our pastor, Doug Brouwer.
