John 15:26-27

²⁶“When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me. ²⁷And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning.”

Coming of “the Spirit of truth …”

This must have been a powerful time for the disciples. Jesus had taught them so many truths, performed miracles, had proclaimed that he was God and equal in every way with the Father (“He who has seen me has seen the Father!”), and now he was telling his disciples that he would go away.

But, he would not go away forever. The Holy Spirit would come alongside them and soon would dwell within their bodies and guide them into all truth ─ but not until their beloved Master had gone away! This was hard to understand, and they wanted to hang on to what they had. But Christ gave them much reassurance and promised: in that day - that fast approaching day of Pentecost – “you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.”

I can only imagine the confusion and concern the disciples were going through after physically experiencing the sights, signs, wonders and miracles and having learned to trust by faith alone in Christ alone. Our experiences are founded in promises from Jesus and also in the Holy Spirit who guides our walk as Christians (as I am relatively certain that no one is still alive from over 2000 years ago to guide us).

I am comforted by faith and the promises that Jesus made to us so many years ago and I pray that others can also feel the warm touch of the Holy Spirit as it guides us through our lives.

Prayer

My prayer for my brothers and sisters in Christ is to open your hearts to the Holy Spirit. Let it soar through your souls and believe in the miracles that were given to you by your Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
