Jesus and the Samaritan Woman

If you want to know Christ and his heartbeat, then see how Jesus worked with the Samaritan woman to win her soul. See how patient he was with all her questions. She did not show a lot of regret or remorse or confess her sins. No, she wanted to speak about anything but her sins.

She finally confessed when it was clear that she had a prophet standing before her, who knew her whole life. She confessed that he was right, that she was living with a man who was not her husband. However, the encounter with Jesus did not start with confession and prayer. Jesus wanted to save her, long before she had asked for prayer or had confessed. Neither was she of any particular merit. He sought her because she was in need of salvation.

This is how the Lord is and this is how his heart aches for sinners. Be sure that you do not think any differently about Christ than he, in so many examples, has shown himself. Make sure that you do not forget or despise the core message of the Gospel: that we are saved by grace. And if by grace, then it is no longer by works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace. (Romans 11:6)

Prayer: Give us, O Lord, this grace, this water of life, so that we may live and enjoy eternity and not forever be thirsty, with not a single drop of water. Hear us for the sake of your precious name, blessed Lord and Savior. Amen.
